Possible Consequences and Penalties

*All minimum periods of incarceration double if you refuse to provide a chemical test or test over .170 BAC, and/or you have a prior DUI conviction in the last twenty years.
As you can see, penalties for a first time offense include:
- License suspension
- Jail time
- Fines
Some other consequences include:
- Drug and alcohol addiction treatment
- Vehicle impounding
- Ignition interlock device installed in vehicle
If you are underage, and you’re applying to or are attending college, some universities may take additional action. Some universities require extra alcohol treatment and/or alcohol safety classes. Some suspend or expel students; it all depends on what school you attend.
Your insurance rates could also increase after getting a DUI. Your insurance premium could increase by hundreds of dollars after you’re convicted with drinking and driving.
